Sometime in September we will be offering a classical guitar built by Mexican luthier Alejandro Mendoza. I discovered his guitars about a year ago on a trip to Mexico City where he resides. I was very impressed by the quality of his craftsmanship and the sound of the instruments.
Alejandro is 36 years old and born in Mexico City. He comes from a musical family originally from Oaxaca in southern Mexico. He began building guitars at a young age with the help of some guitar makers from Paracho, a town known for its luthiers. Later he studied with Carlos Carbajal, a person dedicated to building electric guitars and with Abel García López. With him he learned to deal with the fine points of guitar building. After several years Mendoza decided to dedicate himself to the classical guitar studying the building methods of Robert Bouchet, José Ramírez and others. He now has over 16 years of experience in his art.
He also began to collect woods to use in the process. He allows them to mature for at least ten years in a climate controlled warehouse. He uses traditional wood such as Brazilian and Indian rosewood, red cedar, spruce, and ebony. We will be able to offer guitars with a variety of scales including the popular 644mm and 650mm. His guitars are individually made and there is a waiting list. Prices are quite reasonable starting at $2,500.00
